Primed Community

Primed Community Founded in 2016 in the vibrant but underserved neighbourhood of Comuna 13, Medellín, Primed Community began with free language and life-skills classes aimed at people facing vulnerability and limited opportunity. From humble beginnings by the famous escalators, the organisation recognised that empowerment requires more than education—it demands connection, purpose and meaningful experience. Hence it grew into a social enterprise blending immersive language learning with community transformation. Today, Primed Community offers a rich suite of programs: English and Spanish classes, volunteer experiences, storytelling training, sustainable tourism initiatives and community-led projects. Participants, many from marginalised backgrounds, become “Storytellers” who share their own stories and guide immersive tours of Medellín’s neighbourhoods such as Moravia and Santo Domingo. By partnering with 50+ local organisations and engaging 150+ volunteers, Primed fosters skill development, economic opportunity and cultural expression. Language proficiency, storytelling ability and network building form tools for change. The impact resonates: thousands in the community—students, teachers, entrepreneurs and volunteers—gain access to educational, economic and social opportunities previously out of reach. The presence of local Storytellers re-frames the narrative of vulnerability into one of resilience and ownership. Primed Community doesn’t simply teach language—it unlocks potential, builds stronger neighbourhoods and opens paths to new futures.
