The Dame la Mano Foundation has been serving the community of Comuna 13 in MedellĆn for over 40 years. Founded in response to the violence, displacement, and deep poverty that have long affected this neighborhood, the foundation began with a mission to protect vulnerable children and families while offering them a path toward dignity and opportunity. Over the decades, its work has expanded to reach more than 1,200 children, youth, and their families every year.
Today, the foundation provides a wide range of services designed to break the cycle of poverty and violence. Programs include education, job training, psychosocial support, and dignified housing initiatives. Children and youth receive protection and guidance to confront issues such as abuse, addiction, and street violence, while families are supported through resources that strengthen their ability to build safer and more stable lives. At the heart of its work is the method of āsocial acupuncture,ā which focuses on targeted, impactful interventions that transform entire communities.
