The Comuna Project was founded in 2016 in MedellĆnās Comuna 13, an area long affected by violence, poverty, and social exclusion. The initiative was born out of a desire to create opportunities where they were most needed, with a focus on improving the everyday lives of residents and helping them to envision a brighter future. What started as small-scale community outreach quickly developed into a structured effort to strengthen education, housing, and social well-being.
Today, the project works hand in hand with local residents to enhance living conditions and expand opportunities for children, youth, and families. Activities include educational support, vocational training, and mentorship, alongside initiatives to improve infrastructure and community spaces. Programs are tailored to the needs of Comuna 13ās residents, addressing not only material poverty but also social exclusion and limited access to resources. By building trust and fostering collaboration, the organization creates spaces where people feel safe, valued, and able to pursue their goals.
The impact can be seen in the lives of children who gain access to education, young people who develop leadership skills, and families who are empowered to improve their circumstances. By investing in both individuals and the wider community, The Comuna Project is helping to transform one of MedellĆnās most vulnerable neighborhoods into a place of resilience, opportunity, and hope.
